The orange season is upon us
Oranges are always the best over the winter months.
One of the things we look forward to the most here at Fruitfull Offices, is the arrival of the orange season. After the beautiful summer fruits of the Okanagan finish up, we welcome the bounty from California. First to arrive is the Cara Cara Orange.
Cara Cara oranges are a type of navel orange. They’re a cross between two navels and were first discovered in the mid-70s in Venezuela. This medium sized navel is sweet and low in acid. The flavour is more complex than most navel varieties and has been described as evoking notes of cherry, rose petal, orange, and blackberry.
We are just starting to include them in our fruit boxes as they are the best of the oranges around right now. The orange season doesn’t really start until November here in Vancouver. However, these healthy office snacks will keep you hydrated and they pack a real punch of Vitamin C. The nutrient content and low calorie count of oranges supports weight loss, and their natural sugar offers a guilt-free way for you to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Fruitfull Offices top tip: The heavier the Orange, the better the quality. Oranges lose a lot of moisture during their travels and so the lighter they are, the less sweet – you should compare the weight of your oranges in the supermarket to avoid disappointment. We try to buy North American oranges as there is a lot of moisture loss with the oranges from further away.
